What is Carbon Pleated Air Filter？
The Carbon Pleated air filter uses a folded (pleated) structure, which increases the surface area for capturing particles and gases.
The main filter material of the activated carbon pleated filter is activated carbon cotton or activated carbon fibre; these materials have a rich microporous structure, which can effectively adsorb harmful substances in the air, such as formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, TVOC, etc.
How does Carbon Pleated Filter Work?
1. Physical adsorption
The physical adsorption of activated carbon mainly relies on its well-developed pore structure and huge specific surface area. When air passes through the activated carbon layer, suspended substances, organic substances, odour molecules, etc. will be adsorbed by the micropores of the activated carbon and thus removed. This adsorption is based on van der Waals forces, i.e. the electrostatic energy on the surface of the activated carbon attracts and adsorbs harmful substances.
2. Chemisorption
In addition to physical adsorption, activated carbon can also remove some harmful substances by chemisorption. The surface of activated carbon contains a small amount of oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur, nitrogen and other elements, and the presence of these elements makes the activated carbon have certain chemical activity. Some chemical groups on activated carbon can react with some pollutants and transform them into harmless substances.
3. Advantages of folded design
The activated carbon folded filter adopts W or V-shaped folded shape, and this design can significantly increase the filtration area and improve the filtration efficiency. In addition, the folded structure allows a larger air volume to pass through in a limited space.
