Multi-Stage Gas Turbine Inlet Filtration for Humid Sites
In coastal and high-humidity environments, the hardest part of gas turbine inlet filtration is not achieving a high filtration rating. It is keeping pressure drop, filter life and operating cost under control while salt, moisture and fine particles keep loading the intake.
Why multi-stage filtration matters
A multi-stage system is not about adding more filters. It stages efficiency and dust-holding capacity so contaminants are captured progressively. Coarse dust and moisture are handled upstream; fine particulate protection is reserved for downstream stages. The result is a filtration configuration that stays within a workable pressure-drop range instead of trading efficiency for energy penalty.
What we learned from a 255.6MW project
For a gas turbine project in Tianjin, China, we configured a multi-stage inlet air filtration solution for a coastal, high-humidity site. Since commissioning, the system has met all required technical specifications and operational needs, and the customer has recognized its performance and reliability. The project confirmed that matching the stage configuration to the actual environment matters more than specifying the highest-efficiency filter available.
Quality is part of the filtration performance
Filtration data is only useful if it is repeatable. RT Air Filtech is ISO 9001 certified, and our in-house laboratory supports ISO 16890 filtration performance testing from media and components to finished filters. That traceability is what allows a filtration configuration to be evaluated over years of operation, not just at the point of delivery.
The question worth asking
If you are selecting inlet filtration for a gas turbine site, start with the environment—not the filter catalogue. What is harder on your site: pressure drop rising too fast, or filter life falling short?
